Plain City Receives H2Ohio Rivers Initiative Grant Funding

The Village of Plain City is excited to announce that it has received grant funding through the H2Ohio Rivers Initiative: Chloride Reduction Grant Program! The purpose of the Chloride Reduction Grant Program, offered through the Ohio EPA, is to reduce road salt and deicer runoff and promote chloride reduction in Ohio’s waterways and natural resources. By reducing runoff from road salt and deicers, important freshwater species are protected, water quality is increased, and beneficial soil composition is preserved.

This recently awarded grant funding will allow the Village of Plain City to perform necessary repairs and improvements to the existing road salt storage facility. The project will reduce road salt runoff and protect valuable waterways in Plain City, including the State and National Scenic River, Big Darby Creek. As part of the project, the storage facility will receive a new canopy and additional pavement and concrete blocks to enclose the salt storage area. These improvements will significantly reduce runoff from entering the surrounding soil and streams.

The grant award of $34,600 will entirely fund the project and will not require local taxpayer funds. The Village of Plain City would like to extend its gratitude to the Ohio EPA and H2Ohio Rivers Initiative for selecting Plain City as a grant recipient. This grant funding ensures the viability and success of the project, and therefore the protection of the surrounding environment. The H2Ohio Rivers Initiative aligns closely with the priorities and objectives of the Village of Plain City in protecting and preserving the region’s valuable natural resources and environment and we are pleased to be part of such an important opportunity.
